Meronk happy with strong finish     Friday, March 25, 2022 Adrian Meronk was pleased to close his second round with a brilliant birdie to head into the weekend at the 2022 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in a strong position. The 28-year-old Pole began the day two shots off the lead and carded five birdies and three bogeys on Friday to set the early clubhouse target at eight under. While he was eventually caught and overtaken by Pablo Larrazábal, Meronk finds himself just one shot back with two rounds to go. Starting from the tenth tee, Meronk birdied his opening two holes before dropping his first shot of the day at the 12th.   Larrazabal shows determination to keep Qatar lead Round two report Pablo Larrazabal displayed a superb back nine fightback to retain the lead at the halfway stage of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters at Doha Golf Club. Three additional birdies put the finishing touches to a five under par back nine to complete a return to the top of the leaderboard on a windy day in Doha. The six-time DP World Tour winner is closely followed by Chase Hanna of the United States, Poland’s Adrian Meronk and South African Wilco Nienaber, who all share second place on eight under par, with  Romain Langasque of France a shot further back on seven under par. Scotland’s Ewen Ferguson, En...

Larrazábal still in front after roller-coaster 71

Image
Friday, March 25, 2022 Pablo Larrazábal produced a remarkable fightback on the back nine to take a one-shot lead into the weekend at the 2022 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.   Pablo Larrazábal Spaniard Larrazábal began the day two shots clear after Thursday's 64, but found himself four strokes off the pace at the turn after a front-nine 40 which contained a double bogey, three bogeys and a solitary birdie. The six-time DP World Tour winner did not let that affect him, though, as he bounced back with an eagle at the tenth before birdies at the 11th, 16th and 18th saw him sign for a 71 and grab the outright lead on nine under par. He has a high-quality chasing pack breathing down his neck, with Adrian Meronk, Wilco Nienaber and Chase Hanna just one stroke behind him.   Although Marcus Kinhult's 65 was the lowest round of the day, Larrazábal's may well go down as the best because of the his stunning comeback.   With early starter Me...
