Qatar Cricket Association Premier Division to kick off on September 17
Doha, Qatar:
The long awaited Qatar Cricket Association (QCA) league action for the new
2021-2022 season will kick with the Premier Division, according to a schedule circulated
among the participating teams.
The action
will kick from September 17 and will end on December 31 and will be held on the
weekends, according to the draw issued by Gul M. Khan Jadoon, Head of Domestic
Cricket at QCA.
The Premier
Division, is the top-tier of the Qatar cricket, and will be contested by eight
teams in the 50 overs-a-side matches.
Tusker CC, Royal
Stars CC, Commercial Bank CC, Fireox CC, Bangladesh Senior CC, Warriors CC, Asian
CC and Galfar Al Misnad CC are the teams taking part in the competition which
will be held at Losail grounds.
The top two
teams from the eight will make it to the semi-finals which will be played on December
24. No Matches will be played from October 8, to 29 October due to ICC T20 World
Asia qualifiers.
Qatar will
host the qualifiers from October 19 to 30 and will compete against Bahrain,
Maldives, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, from which the top team will progress into
the one of the two eight-team global qualifiers.
Incidentally
last season domestic matches of the 2020-21 season could not be completed while
the 2019-2020 could not pick up a winner in some divisions while a few were
able to beat the pandemic onset.
“We are
looking forward to some competitive cricket. It is almost 18 months that we
have been away from cricket,” said a team official who did not want to be named
in the story.
The long
break will have a effect on the performance of some players and teams are
working overtime to iron out the faults in the nets.
“For sure,
many of the players will be rusty, the first two matches will be crucial and
then on we need to build up,” he added.
