Qatar’s National Cycling Team made the best start to the Tour of Salalah road race

Qatar’s National Cycling Team made the best start to the Tour of Salalah road race with Ahmed Elbourdainy and Abdullah Al Jaidi taking first and second on the opening prologue time trial. Meanwhile, fifth placed Bilal Al Saadi leads the U23 competition. Elbourdainy completed the six kilometer race against the clock in 7 minutes 49.8 seconds with just over one second separating him from third place - Khaled Mahouf (UAE National Team).

Qatar is competing against National Teams from all the other GCC countries, with ten Omani teams also taking part. This prologue stage is the opener for the four-day, 320 kilometer race which continues until Friday. The coming days will present a real test to our cyclists with all stages over 100 kilometers. However, the five rider team recently returned from their summer training camp in Slovenia and go forward with some confidence that the fitness and experience gained there will help them to defend their three race leader jerseys as the race enters the mountainous terrain around Oman’s southern city.
