‘Qatar Classico’ will bring rivals Al Sadd SC and Al Rayyan SCtogether for the nation’s premier cup competition

 

Al Thumama Stadium will host the final , marking the completion of the sixth FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ venue

DOHA, Qatar –Qatar Airways is excited to participate as the Official AirlineSponsor of the highly anticipated 49thAmir Cup finalclashbetween Al Sadd SC and Al Rayyan SCon Friday. The match will take place at the sixth and latest FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022venue, Al Thumama Stadium.

The high stakes match-up will feature two of the country’s biggest clubs,marking little over a year until the start of the FIFA World Cup. The Amir Cup features teams from all tiers, making it a household name in the Qatari football calendar.

As part of preparations for the match, fans will receive a unique smart technology identification card – a FanID, which will be utilised as an access pass to enter the stadium, while also providing free access to the Doha Metro on match day.

The Amir Cup final will witness 100 per cent occupancy of spectators for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, while operating in line with public health requirements.With a capacity of 40,000 seats, the state-of-the-art Al Thumama Stadium resembles the design of the traditional ‘gahfiya’ head cap, paying tribute to the piece of clothing that is donned by Arabsacross the region. It will host six matches during the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021™, in addition to eight FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ matches through to the quarter-finals.Post-World Cup Al Thumama Stadium's seating capacity will be reduced from 40,000 to 20,000, andthe seats removed from the stadium will be donated to countries in need of sporting infrastructure.
