Rasmi puts up another man of the
match performance in Div B
DOHA: Mohammed Rasmi turned in a
commendable all-round performance and guided Redco to a third triumph in as
many matches in the Qatar Airways Division B Cricket Tournament.
Qatar Airways is the title sponsor
for the annual tournament, which features 56 teams competing for top honors
across three divisions. Over the years, the tournament has attained new heights
and featured talented cricketers from Qatar’s diverse expatriate
community.
At the West Bay Grounds, Rasmi
removed half the Lanka Knights Club team, giving away just 15 runs. As a
result, Redco shot out them for only 114 runs. Later Rasmi blasted four sixes
and four boundaries to post 52 in 27 balls.
Farhan got 31, which included a
six and four shots to the rope to help Redco reach the target for the loss of
three wickets in 10.4 overs. For Rasmi, this was his second man of the match
performance. Shyam got two wickets for 25 runs.
Vigneshwaran of Qatar Super Kings
slammed an unbeaten 89 in 42 balls to set up a nine-wicket rout of Gulf
Warehousing Company in another match. After restricting the opponents to 117
for eight in 20 overs through a three-wicket haul from Sabesh, QSK raced to the
victory in 10.3 overs.
The third win in a row took QSK to
the top of the table along with Redco. Vigneshwaran, who was declared the man
of the match, clobbered 18 boundaries in his entertaining knock. GWC suffered
second defeated in two matches.
Doha Bank and United Challengers
also maintained their winning run in the tournament, recording their second
successive triumphs. Jack (three wickets) and Chameera took five wickets
between them to contain Chattagram Super Kings at 95 for eight in 19 overs.
Manjula played 28 balls and got 54
before engineering a nine-wicket victory over the rivals in 11.4 overs. His
brilliant knock had five sixes and two boundaries. This was the first defeat
for Chattagram in three matches.
Mohammed Riyaz’s aggressive 72
laid the base for United Challengers’ big score of 205 for four. He hit two
sixes and a doze of fours in his 33-ball innings to dominate the opening stand
of 106. Sunil added 35, while Naser chipped in with 29 and opener Ahnaaf made
27.
Man of the match Naser then led
the downfall of Transfast Legends with three for 32. Farhan and Nikas shared
four wickets. Jesil (40 with seven fours) and Sajimul (30 with two sixes and
four boundaries) tried their best but it was not enough to save them from a
34-run loss.
