Rampaging 91 by Mamun for Prime Gladiators

DOHA: Super Stars Club and Wombats Club pulled off nerve-racking wins in the Division C match at the Qatar Airways T20 Cricket Tournament at the West Bay Grounds.

Qatar Airways, the national carrier of the State of Qatar with a network of over 140 destinations, is the title sponsor for the annual tournament. The event features 56 teams competing for top honors across three divisions. Over the years, the tournament has attained new heights and produced talented cricketers from Qatars diverse expatriate community.

Super Stars, after amassing 197 for nine in 20 overs through Sher Khan’s 24-ball 39 with two sixes and three fours and a 33 by Adil, faced tense moments as their rivals Fearless Fighters put together an exciting chase. However, they just about managed to restrict the opponents and clinch the match by a mere one run.

Besides Sher Khan and  Adil, Nasir’s 24 also proved crucial for the winners. Rishad and Ilyas shared six wickets. For Fearless Fighters, Ilyas slammed 67 not out, which included a six and 11 fours, and Naseef chipped in with 42. However their efforts failed to inspire the team to the victory.

Syed Ihtisham starred in Wombats Club’s three-run triumph over Multiplex Club in another match. After Ihtisham smashed eight boundaries in his 76 not out out of his team’s 173 for eight, he grabbed a wicket as well. Shariq had the best figures of two for 30 and contained the rivals at 170 for eight.

Abdulla Al Mamun cracked a fiery 91 to lift Prime Gladiators to a 36-run victory against Al Shaheen Club. His 46-ball cameo included half a dozen sixes and nine fours, which laid the foundation of his team’s 197 for nine. Mehboob had two sixes and as many boundaries in 32. Al Shaheen could reply with only 161 for eight. Arafat picked two wickets for the winners.
