QATAR’S NASSER SALEH AL-ATTIYAH HEADS FIELD FOR MERC FINALE IN OMAN

  MUSCAT (OMAN): Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah, the winner of a record-breaking 17 FIA Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) titles, tops the entry for the Oman Rally Sohar International 2021. At the West Bay Grounds, CBQ were restricted at 188 in 48.1 overs by Saleem (four for 28) and Hassan (three for 20). Zaheer hit seven fours to compile 61 in 94 balls and Abbas made 44 with four boundaries to be the highest scorers. Firox Club battled hard during the chase. Saqlain smashed a six and six fours in 56-ball 51. Shahzaib cracked three sixes in 38 not out and Danitha added 27 with four shots to the rope. However, Nayeem led the CBQ rally with four scalps in nine overs. Philip and Abdullah grabbed two each to help CBQ nail the thrilling triumph. Nayeem was adjudged the player of the match. Defending champions Warriors Club defeated Asian Club comfortably by six wickets after shooting out the rivals for just 134 in 29.4 overs. Mujeeb (three for 12) and Adnan Mirza (two for 26) were the wreckers in chief. Awais Malik and Mughees were the principal contributors for Asian Club. Malik smashed two sixes and eight fours in 59 and Mughees got 23 not out. Warriors Club did not encounter any serious threat from the opponents and secured the target in 22.1 overs. Kamran Khan chipped in with 30, Adnan Mirza hit 27, Aamir got 24, Imal Liyanage made 23, while Muhammad Murad Khan posted 24 not out with five fours to see the team through. Royal Stars ended their four-match skid by beating Bangla Seniors by seven wickets. Former Qatar skipper Inam-ul Haq set up the victory with his superb all-round display. He took two wickets and followed it up with a magnificent 102 off 113 balls to emerge the deserving player of the match. Besides Haq, Fayyaz (three for 39) and Khalid Khatib (three for 58) bowled impressively to contain Bangla Seniors at 217 in 44.3 overs. Rifat clobbered three sixes and four boundaries in 48 and Roman made run-a-ball 39. Haq rifled a dozen boundaries and Asghar Bajwa’s 76 in 87 balls contained a six and six fours before Royal Stars tasted the first win in five matches in 36.5 overs. Asif was the pick of the bowlers with two for 33.  Qatari driver Ahmed al-Kuwari emerged victorious in Auto Class 1 in Round 4 of the Qatar Off -Road Championship on Saturday. Driving with his navigator Nasser al-Kuwari, Ahmed clocked a time of 1 hour 39.06 minutes in the Yamaha YXZ 1000R at a gruelling desert loop in Abu Sidra to seal the win, their second victory in four rounds. The win places them in the second spot in the points tally as they tied with Ahmed Allough and Ali Hassan Obaid of Qatar who have 65 points, posing a threat to overall Championship leader Abdulla al-Khelaifi of Qatar. Ahmed al-Muhannadi and Mubarak al-Khelaifi fi nished second yesterday in their Yamaha YXZ 1000R, 38.22 seconds behind the race winner. Meanwhile, Abdulla al-Khelaifi and navigator Abdulaziz al-Jabri fi nished second in Class 3 behind Abdulaziz alBshayer and Martin Chalmers. Mohamed Ameer and Tamer Hijazeen came third.
