36th Qatar Open Golf Amateur Championship of Qatar Golf Association concludes at Doha Golf Club

  Denmark’s Mikkel Mathiesen yesterday fired a fabulous two-under-par 70 on another tough day at the Doha Golf Club to win the 36th Qatar Open Golf Amateur Championship by three strokes.  As golfers battled strong winds for the second consecutive day, Mathiesen fired two birdies for an aggregate of 218 to regain the title, which he won in 2019. “It’s a great feeling. I wasn’t able to come back to defend my title in 2020 and I am happy to win this tournament again,” Mathiesen, a resident of Doha studying abroad, told reporters after winning the crown.  The 21-year-old said the last two rounds were a real test for golfers, saying he was happy for his consistent performance in the last two days despite the challenge.      “It was tough to play in these conditions and you have to trust your game as much as possible.  The International Youth Star Contender will be held in Qatar The International Youth Star Contender will be held in Qatar from 7-11 March 2022 at the Lusail Multipurpose Sports Hall. A separate category has been established for singles and doubles competitions for under 15 year olds for both Boys & Girls, as well as singles and doubles competitions for ages under 19 (for both Boys & Girls). The tournament will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of the International Table Tennis Federation.  Advanced players are selected based on the highest ranking, most contested tournaments, and international ranking; In the preliminary rounds, the lower ranked players play international tournaments and matches. The registration period for participation in the tournament runs from January 20, 2021, until February 11, 2022.
