Doha: William Asselborn, Ambassador of Belgium to the State of Qatar, praised the wonderful atmosphere inside Al Shaqab Arena, which hosts the Commercial Bank Chi Al Shaqab Championship, in which some of the best riders in the world are taking part.

Speaking on the sidelines of the championship, he said: “We always welcome the participation of our riders in any sporting event, so that every time they receive a great welcome and a warm welcome, I think that the infrastructure of Al Shaqab Square and the facilities it contains are very special. This tournament comes at the beginning of the equestrian season, after which they will participate in different tournaments in Europe, and therefore they are eagerly waiting for this tournament.

He added, "We have 12 knights participating in this tournament, in addition to one referee, and I had a conversation with them, and everyone was very impressed and happy to participate.

His Excellency explained: This is my first attendance at the tournament, but I had previously visited Al Shaqab with a delegation that came from Belgium last October, during which we inspected all the facilities, stables and horses, and this indicates that Qatar has a broad vision in the field of equestrianism. Qataris are well aware that Belgium has a great history in the equestrian world, so many Qataris have visited Belgium and expressed their admiration.

He pointed out that there has been an old relationship and great cooperation between Qatar and Belgium for many years, and we hope that this partnership and cooperation will deepen in the coming years in the field of equestrianism. We hope that this cooperation will continue.

He went on to say: “Al Shaqab is a leading global destination for equestrian professionals, which includes distinguished facilities, an indoor and an outdoor field with international specifications, as well as a professional management.

He stressed that the jockeys who participate in this tournament are among the most prominent international jockeys, as on the first day he obtained good results from them, whether in terms of jumping or dressage, and on the second day we also obtained good results. I wish them all success in winning the grand prize, as they did last season.

On his impression of Qatar’s organization of the World Cup in 2022, Asselborn said: “In the beginning, we are happy that Belgium qualified for this global event, and we hope that it will achieve good results. As for the Qatari organization, I think that Qatar will organize an impressive World Cup thanks to its strong infrastructure that matches the size of the tournament.”
