A strong start to the international FEEDER table Tennis competitions in Qatar
Early exit for Qatari players
The
FEEDER International Table Tennis Championship, the first men's and women's
tournament for the singles and doubles categories, kicked off on Sunday, with
the participation of 265 players from the world's top ranked players
representing 37 countries on the Qatari Women's Hall.
The first day witnessed
strong confrontations within the preliminaries for men and women for the
categories of singles, doubles and mixed doubles, where 32 matches were held,
after which 32 players qualified for the second stage that will be held today.
Today, 44 matches will be
held within the second phase of the preliminary rounds for men and women in the
categories of singles, doubles and mixed doubles, where the tournament
competitions are played according to the regulations of the International
Federation of the Game and the International Table Tennis Foundation, with the
confrontations divided into the singles and doubles categories for men and
women in addition to the mixed doubles.
Early exit
The Qatari participation
witnessed the exit of Ahmed Saadawi, losing to Tunisian Abu Bakr Bouras (1-3),
and Fahd Al-Mughni lost to Japan’s Tamito Watanabe (3-0), while Mohamed Abdel
Wahab ascended to the second stage of the preliminary rounds and will face the
Indian today, Bias Jan. The player Ahmed Muthana Al-Awlaki will compete in the
tournament, starting from the 64th round, where he will meet the Chinese Yu
Ziyang.
As for the women's singles
competitions, 32 players qualified for the second stage of the preliminary
rounds that will be held today. With regard to the Qatari participation, Shouq
Abdullah lost to Turkish Marvi Nur Ozturk 3-0, while Maryam Ali competes in the
16th round with Australian Yangzi Liu.
Strong confrontations
On Sunday, eight strong matches were held in
the men's doubles category within the first stage of the preliminary rounds,
the winners of which qualified for the second stage of the preliminary rounds,
which will be held today, while the players of the Qatari team will participate
in this category, starting from the 16th round, where the duo Muhammad
Abdul-Wahhab and Abdullah Abdul-Wahhab will compete with the Indian duo Shnit
Seravagula and Jet Chandra, and the other Qatari doubles consisting of Ahmed Muthanna
Al-Awlaki and Fahd Al-Mughni will meet Puerto Rican players Brian Avandor and
Daniel Gonzalez.
Abdullah Al-Sada: I have
confidence in the young organizational cadres
Abdullah Al-Sada, head of
the Transportation and Public Relations Committee of the Organizing Committee,
affirmed that the Qatari hosting of the international table family continues
its organizational successes.
He added, "The
women's gym in Aspire Zone is witnessing a wonderful and refreshing atmosphere,
especially after the launch of the Ferrer Championship, which is the first
men's and women's championships, with the participation of the most prominent
professionals and top ranked players in the world."
He continued, "The
Qatari Federation headed by Mr. Khalil Al-Mohannadi is keen to give confidence
in the Qatari youth among the organizational cadres within the Federation, and
we are proud of this confidence, which gives us more organizational
experiences."
Al-Sada explained that the
STAR CONTENDER Championship, which will be held at the end of this month, will
witness the presence of many important figures from the members of the
International Federation and the heads of the continental and local
federations, which confirms the position that Qatar enjoys on the map of the
world table.
